Theater Department Presents 'The Cherry Orchard'

The Theater Department will present Chekhov's 'The Cherry Orchard' with a contemporary Central Asian interpretation.
The Theater Department of the Academy of Arts of the Kyrgyz Republic is proud to present Anton Chekhov's masterpiece 'The Cherry Orchard,' reimagined in a contemporary Central Asian context. This innovative production explores themes of cultural change, tradition, and modernization that resonate deeply in today's Kyrgyzstan.
Directed by Professor Bakyt Mukambaev, the production features fourth-year acting students in the principal roles, with set and costume design by students from the Design Department. The production represents a collaborative effort across multiple disciplines at the Academy.
Performances will take place at the Academy's Main Theater on April 10-12 and 17-19 at 7:00 PM, with matinee performances on April 13 and 20 at 2:00 PM. Tickets are available at the Academy box office or online, with special discounts for students and faculty.
A post-performance discussion with the director and cast will follow the April 12 evening show, focusing on the process of adapting classical works to reflect contemporary Central Asian realities.
